Development and performance
Through an annual appraisal process, Dairy Crest assesses the performance of our people against agreed objectives covering the preceding year, sets new objectives and agrees personal development goals for the coming year.
Competency profiling, where we match appropriate skills to a role, is key to employee development and used during recruitment to assess the suitability of candidates.
In 2003 Dairy Crest introduced a group wide Management Development programme to help our people realise their management potential and to equip the next generation of senior managers with the skills to lead the company into the future. For example, working with Roffey Park Management Institute, Dairy Crest conducts two 15 month programmes for leaders and managers as well as development programmes accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management.
Dairy Crest works with employees to maintain the competitiveness of manufacturing facilities through continuous improvement. Our Manufacturing Improvement programme explores ways for sites to minimise wastage and thereby become more efficient. The specialist training days we run provide an opportunity for Dairy Crest to tap the skills and experience of employees - solving operational problems and sharing learning across the Group.
Investing in people
Dairy Crest's commitment to its people includes seeking Investors in People accreditation for all its businesses. The majority of our manufacturing sites and all our household depots have already achieved this status.

Dairy Crest's Sharesave scheme allows employees to save as they earn through buying shares in the company at a discounted price fixed until March 2007.
Employees enter into a fixed sharesave contract at the end of which they earn a tax free bonus on top of their savings with the opportunity of exercising their share options.
All employees are covered with a minimum of 1x life cover. Members of the Dairy Crest Pension Scheme are covered with 3 x P60.
Dairy Crest offers a childcare voucher scheme where part of an employee's remuneration can be taken in childcare vouchers, which are exempt from National Insurance.
